where to find the news

one of my favorite websites for getting news, video clips, speech transcripts, little seen tidbits in the main media is http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ - they are awesome. For instance, after McCain's speech last night, the opening page headline was "ME TOO - I WANT CHANGE" which i think is hilarious. I can't believe that he can just STEAL obama's campaign of "change"! How is that OK? and the thing that scares me the most about it is that I think a lot of American's might be stupid enough not to realize a. he is lying b. he stole that slogan from Obama c. he is lying.

I watched Sarah Palin's speech on Wednesday. I had 2 glasses of wine in me to ease the pain. Prior to her, I watched the former governor of my home state Massachusetts, one Mitt Romney, who had clearly either visited the tanning salon that morning, or had his wife spray tan him minutes before he took the stage. Everything about him bothered me. AT least he didn't start taking credit for what a great state Massachusetts is. Well, I guess he wouldn't mention the gay marriage rights, the health care system, or the stem cell research clinics now would he? However, his humor was in full swing, this is what he said regarding energy conservation:
"And I have — I have one more recommendation for energy conservation: Let’s keep Al Gore’s private jet on the ground."

As my mom and i used to always say whenever we heard him giving a speech in Massachusetts "oh, Mitt!" because he, like McCain, like George W. Bush, is just a "regular guy" who can say funny little jokes like that. yes, I admit that when Biden or Obama say things like that i howl with laughter. But when it is someone I dislike, it is dumb. Fine. I am not fair and balanced. But at least I don't base my dislike on what they look like or the stupid jokes they make. I base it on their ignorance. Then there was Rudy. Oh, Rudy. And,what a SURPRISE he mentioned September 11!!
"Of great concern to me, during those same four days in Denver, they rarely
mentioned the attacks of September 11, 2001. They are in a state of denial
about the biggest threat that faces this country. And if you deny it and you
don’t deal with it, you can’t face it."

As Joe Biden said during the primaries, "'There's only three things he mentions in a sentence -- a noun, a verb, and 9/11." Now, I know we can't take September 11 lightly. I know that it is an important part of our history. But since then,we have invaded a country for no reason, and lost thousands of troops, the economy is hurting, and all of those countries that came to our aid after September 11, hate us. We haven't nearly enough time in the country we should be, Afghanistan. After several channel changes in fury, always going back to watch Rudy, after I thought I couldn't take one more second of the lisp, he finished.

Now, my friends. it was Sarah Palin's turn. As I mentioned before, thanks to Chris, my roommates boyfriend, bringing a large bottle of wine with him to our apartment, I was feeling punchy by the time "caribou barbie" took the stage. She walked to the podium, and I said "please let her be terrible." I will admit, she did better than i thought she would. But, after years of acting training, years of being able to spot signs of good and bad acting, she was terrible. she was SO rehearsed, i really think the teleprompter said "raise arm, point finger, smile, pause, laugh" etc.. because she was so stiff!! that was the first thing I noticed. Then I noticed she didnt talk about ANYTHING. I dont know if I just dont GET Republican humor, or if really it just ISNT FUNNY. Here was a delightful little quip from Palins speech:
I love those hockey moms. You know, they say the difference between a hockey
mom and a pit bull? Lipstick."

Great. Well, I did a little research on one of my favorite little websites, wikipedia, and I found out that Pit bulls have been BANNED in several places!!! Maybe this explains why Sarah did not travel outside the US until a few years ago. Here are the places where pit bulls are banned, therefore, are places that Ms. Palin should not be visiting: Ontario, Canada; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Australia; France; Norway; Iceland; Singapore;United Kingdom; Denmark; New Zealand; The Netherlands; Serbia; Italy; Livingston County, Michigan Delta, Utah; Independence, Missouri; Overland Park, Kansas; Springville, Utah; Miami-Dade County, Florida; Council Bluffs, Iowa; Royal City, Washington; Denver, Colorado; Prince George's County, Maryland;Springfield, Missouri; Oklahoma;Shelbyville, Tennessee; and Aurora, Colorado.

She attacked Obama, using lies and petty examples to do it. The Republicans loved her. I am hoping that any undecideds were unmoved. After telling the press to leave her family alone, she exploited them, with each member standing and waving whenever they were mentioned. Her baby was passed around from person to person. As my friend Liz said "HIRE A NANNY AND GET THAT KID IN BED." I agree. I don't think the RNC or the DNC is any place for a BABY.

Now, I know that apparently the Democrats did not mention September 11 enough to satisfy mr. Giuliani. HOwever, last night at the RNC they aired a video about it. It was graphic, showed bloody bodies etc... Keith Olberman (MSNBC reporter and fellow Harry Potter fan) was appalled with the video and had this to say about it:
"I'm sorry, it's necessary to say this and I wanted to separate myself from the
others on the air about this. If at this late date, any television network hadof
its own accord showed that much videotape, and that much graphic videotape of
9/11, and I speak as somebody who lost a few friends there, it, we, would be
rightly eviscerated at all quarters, perhaps by the Republican Party itself, for
exploiting the memories of the dead and perhaps even for trying to evoke that
pain again. If you reacted to that videotape the way I did, I apologize. "

to see the video you can go here, but like i said, it is pretty graphic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw1vEzqld0I

Last night was the wonderful speech by John McCain. Wonderful in that I could fall asleep during it. My GOD he is a horrible speaker! Do people REALLY BELIEVE the stuff that he proposed? I heard on the radio today that it was more like a State of the Union address. Yes, it was, because i usually snooze through those too! Seriously. IT was slow. It was calculated. He was squinting to read the teleprompter. he kept messing up. HE IS OLD. and as my roommate says "he is wrinkly." The highlight of the speech was when he got all flustered after the third round of protesters interrupted him. WHO ARE THOSE PROTESTERS, and CAN I SHAKE THEIR HANDS!? I love that. Ask yourself this: do you want someone to be your president who voted with Bush 90% of the time!? NINETY PERCENT. Look at where we are right now as a country. Look at the past 8 years. Do you want that again? No.

I found a trend in each speech. IN case none of you knew, John McCain was a POW. Each speech that mentioned this, i found myself in SHOCK. REALLY!? he was a POW!!! WHO KNEW!? here are some examples:

  • Rudy Giuliani: He was tortured in a POW camp
  • Cindy McCain: I think John was a hero in Vietnam.
  • John McCain: On an October morning, in the Gulf of Tonkin, I prepared for my 23rd mission over North Vietnam. I hadn’t any worry I wouldn’t come back safe and sound. I thought I was tougher than anyone. I was pretty independent then, too.
I liked to bend a few rules and pick a few fights for the fun of it. But I did it for my own pleasure, my own pride. I didn’t think there was a cause that was more important than me. Then I found myself falling toward the middle of a small lake in the city of Hanoi, with two broken arms, a broken leg, and an angry crowd waiting to greet me.
I was dumped in a dark cell and left to die. I didn’t feel so tough anymore.
  • Sarah Palin: A fellow prisoner of war, a man named Tom Moe of Lancaster, Ohio…
… Tom Moe recalls looking through a pinhole in his cell door as Lieutenant Commander John McCain was led down the hallway by the guards, day after day.
And the story is told, when McCain shuffled back from torturous interrogations, he would turn towards Moe’s door, and he’d flash a grin and a thumbs up, as if to say, “We’re going to pull through this.”

Now, the RNC is over.

THANK GOD.

BRING ON THE DEBATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
